A.girdle worn round the loins, PRev.Laws94.7 (iii B. C.), Plu.Rom.21 (in form περί-ζωσμα ), Poll.7.65, etc.; worn by athletes, Paus.1.44.1; by priests, Plu.Aem.33; by smiths, Arr. Epict.4.8.16; ἔχειν π. wear the apron, of a cook, Hegesipp.Com.1.7 : hence “οἱ λόγοι σου περιζώματος ὄζουσινPlu.2.182d; ἀσκεῖν ἐκ περιζώματος practise an art with the apron on. i.e. merely with the outward appendage of an art, superficially, D.H.Din.1; of soldiers, underclothing, ἐν περιζώμασιν, opp. ἐν θώραξι, Plb.6.25.3.
