A.stake, wager, c. gen. pretii, τρίποδος περιδώμεθον ἠὲ λέβητος let us make a wager of a tripod, i.e. let us wager a tripod (to be paid by the loser), Il.23.485 ; ἐμέθεν περιδώσομαι αὐτῆς I will wager myself, i.e. my life, Od.23.78 ; π. πότερον . . lay a wager whether . . , Ar.Ach.1115 ; “περὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς περιδόσθαιId.Eq.791 : with dat. pers. added, περίδου μοι περὶ θυματιδᾶν ἁλῶν have a wager with me for a little thyme-salt, Id.Ach.772 ; περίδου νυν ἐμοί, εἰ μὴ . . Id.Nu.644, cf. Diph.130.
