A.maim, mutilate, esp. in the limbs, Ar.Ra.623; ἐὰν παῖδας ὄντας πηρώσῃ τις castrate, Arist.HA631 b31; “αἴ κα σῦς καρταῖπος παρώσει” GDI4998i14 (Gortyn): more freq. in Pass., “πηροῦται τὸ σκέλος τούτοισι” Hp.Art.60, cf. GDIl. c. i8; “τὸ σκέλος πεπηρωμένος” D.18.67; “πεπήρωται τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς” Arist.HA620a1, cf. Ephor.1 J.; so of moles, lobsters, to be defective in point of eyes, claws, Arist.HA491b34, PA684a35; ὥσπερ πεπηρωμένον τετράπουν, of the seal, Id.HA498a32; “τὸ πηρωθὲν ἐν τῇ ὑστέρᾳ” Id.GA749a2, etc.
