προεῖπον (also
A.“-εῖπα” Plb.3.114.8), aor. with no pres. in use, προλέγω and προαγορεύω being used, part. προειπών, inf. προειπεῖν:— foretell, Pl.Euthphr.3c, al., Gal.14.601; premise, “τοῦτο προειπόντα ἐπειπεῖν τὰ ἔμπροσθεν” Arist.Rh.1394b31.
II. proclaim or declare publicly, “ἀλλήλοισι πόλεμον π.” Hdt.7.9.“β́; ξεινίην τοῖσι Ἀκανθίοισι π.” Id.7.116; “ἀγῶνας ἑκάστοις” X.Cyr.1.6.18; νικητήρια ταῖς τάξεσι ib. 2.1.24; “θάνατον αὐτῷ π. μὴ πράξαντι ταῦτα” Pl.Lg.698c; π. τινὶ φόνου make proclamation of murder against him, D.59.9, cf. Lex ap.eund. 43.57; “π. τοῖς θεοῖς ὅτι . .” Pl.Cra.401a; ὀνυμάξει αὐτὸν προειπὼν τρῖς ἁμέρας giving notice of three days (within which he must answer the call), Berl.Sitzb.1927.167（Cyrene); “ἐν ἡμέραις πέντε ἀφ᾽ ἧς ἂν ἀλλήλοις προείπωσιν” BGU1050.27(i A.D.).
III. c. inf., order or command before, “πρό οἱ εἴπομεν . . , μήτ᾽ αὐτὸν κτείνειν” Od.1.37, cf. Hdt.1.21, 155, 7.12, S.OT351; “οἱ νόμοι προεῖπον αὐτῷ μὴ δημηγορεῖν” Aeschin.1.3; “π. τοῖς καδεσταῖς ἀλλύεθθαι” Leg.Gort.2.28: c. acc. et inf., “π. σῖτον ἐσάγειν τὸν βουλόμενον” Th.4.26; π. αὐτῷ δήσειν threatened him that . . , And.4.17.
2. enjoin, c. acc., “π. Λυδοῖσι τὰ ὁ Κροῖσος ὑπετίθετο” Hdt.1.156.
