2. abs. (though an inf. may commonly be supplied), show zeal, exert oneself, A.Pr.383, 630, Hdt.8.86, 9.38, Th. 4.81, X.An.6.4.22, etc.; to be of good cheer, in good spirits, opp. ἀθυμέω, Id.Cyr.6.2.13.
3. c. acc. objecti, to be eager or zealous for, desire ardently, τὴν ξύμβασιν, τὴν ὁμολογίαν, Th.5.17, 8.90: mostly with neut. Adj., “π. τοῦτο, ὅπως . .Antipho l.c.; “μηδὲν ἄλλο τοῦτοPl.Phd.64a, cf. R.472e, al., v. l. in 460d; “π. περί τιArist.HA581a22.
