Pl.Sph.264b; opp. παρὰ προσδοκίαν, which is used of a kind of joke freq. in Com., e.g. ἔχειν ὑπὸ ποσσὶχίμεθλα (where πέδιλα was expected), Demetr.Eloc.152, Hermog.Meth.34, Tib. Fig.16: generally, “τὸ παρὰ π. ἐξαπίναιονPhld.Herc.1251.19.
