A.“-ελῶ” X.Cyr.6.2.18: aor. 1 “-ήλα^σα” Th.4.72: Coan non-thematic 3pl. pres. ind. ποτέλαντι dub. in SIG1025.6 (iv/iii B.C.):—drive or chase to a place, τινὰς πρὸς τὴν Νίσαιαν Th.l.c.; βοῦν SIGl.c.; “π. τὸν ἵππον” Plu.2.755b; “π. τινὰ φιλοσοφία” D.L.7.5:—Pass., to be driven or fixed to, “πρὸς τοὔδαφος” Plu.Crass.25.
II. mostly intr.,
1. (sc. ἵππον) ride towards, ride up, “πρὸς τὸ στρατόπεδον” Hdt.7.208, cf. 9.20, X.Cyr. 4.2.17; ἀλλήλοις ib.1.4.23; also “π. ἵππῳ” Hdt.9.44, X.HG4.5.7, cf. Cyr. 1.4.17; π. ἐπὶκαμήλων ib.6.2.18; οἱ προσελαύνοντες, opp. οἱ προσθέοντες (the infantry), Id.An.6.3.7.
2. (sc. στρατόν) march up, οὔπω ἧκεν ἀλλ᾽ ἔτι προσήλαυνε ib.1.5.12, etc.
3. of time, approach, “ἐπὶ τὸν ἀεὶ ἑξῆς καὶ -οντα χρόνον” PMasp.158.27 (vi A.D.), cf. PFlor.294.102 (vi A.D.), etc.
