προτάσσω , Att. προτα?́ν-ττω , 2 aor. Pass. προετάγην [α^] A.D.Synt.306.16:—
A.place or post in front, σφᾶς αὐτοὺς π. πρὸ τῶν Ἑλλήνων put themselves in front of them, so as to defend them, And.1.107; π. σφῶν αὐτῶν Ἀστύμαχον put him at their head, as speaker, Th.3.52:—Med., προετάξαντο τῆς φάλαγγος τοὺς ἱππέας posted the horse in front of it, X.HG6.4.10:—Pass., stand before one, so as to protect, ἄ<*>αξ, προτάσσου A.Supp.835 (lyr.); τὸ προταχθέν the front rank, van, X.Cyr. 5.3.37; “οἱ προτεταγμένοι” Id.HG2.4.15, Ar.Pax1340; “προταχθέντες ὑπὲρ ἁπάντων” Isoc.4.99; also in documents, ὁ -τεταγμένος the aforesaid, POxy.1112.18 (ii A.D.), etc.
2. class as prior, Plot.6.1.25; prefer, τί τινος Sch.Ar.Ra.546.
3. Gramm., prefix, D.T.631.7 (Pass.), etc.; “προτάσσεται τῷ ῥήματι καὶ ὑποτάσσεται” A.D.Pron. 116.6.
II. appoint or determine beforehand, “χρόνον” S.Tr.164; “ἆθλον” Arist.Pr.956b17, 20 (Act. and Pass.):—Pass., “προτεταγμένοι” Aen.Tact.1.5.
III. Med., set before oneself, take as an example, Pl.Sph.218e; propose to oneself, ἐκ τούτου τὸ ζ<*>῀ν ib.224d.
