II. beacon or signal-fire ( = Att. φρυκτός), Hdt.7.183, 9.3, Aen.Tact.6.7, Plb.10.44.10, etc.: metaph., “πυρσὸν ὣς Ἕλλα_σι φαίνωνB.12.82.
