ῥιπτ-έω , used only in pres. and impf., collat. form of ῥίπτω, first in Od.,
A.ἀν-ερρίπτουν ἅλα πηδῷ13.78, where it suits the metre (but not the Ion. dialect); so in Ar., “ῥιπτεῖτε χλαίναςEc.507; “διαρριπτοῦντεId.V.59; in Trag. ῥιπτέω is never either guaranteed or disproved by the metre, “ῥιπτείσθωA.Pr.1043 (anap., cod. Med.), “ῥιπτεῖS.Aj.239 (anap.), Ant.131 (anap.), Tr.780, “ῥιπτεῖνE.Tr.734 cod. P, “ῥιπτοῦνθ᾽Hel.1096 cod. L, “ῥιπτοῦντεςHeracl.149 codd. LP; ῥίπτετ᾽ and ἔρριπτον are guaranteed by the metre in E.HF941, Ba.1097, so that ῥίπτων, ῥίπτει may be accepted in E.Ba.150 (lyr.), Hel.1325 (lyr.); ῥιπτέω is found also in Prose, “ῥιπτεῦσιHdt.4.94 (v.l.); ῥιπτέουσι ib.188, cf. 7.50 (ἀνα-), 8.53, Th.4.95 (ἀνα-), Pl.Ti.80a, Arist.Ph.266b30, Mu.396a2, Plb.1.47.4, al., Agatharch.26; “ῥειπτουμένωνOGI629.158 (Palmyra, ii A.D.), etc.
