A.σάκευςHes.Sc.334 (Cretan word acc. to AB1096):—shield, Il.7.222, 18.478, 20.268, Hdt.1.52, etc.: it was concave, and hence sts. used as a vessel to hold liquid, A.Th. 540.
2. metaph., shield, defence, βωμός, ἄρρηκτον ς. A.Supp.190. (Prob. cogn. with Skt. tvác- 'skin, hide'.)
