A.use the sling, Th.2.81, X.An.3.3.7, 15, etc.; τοῖς λίθοις ς. ib. 17; “ἐν τῷ σφενδονᾶν ἡ χεὶρ γίνεται κέντρον” Arist.Mech.852b7.
2. strike by slinging, “τὰς αὔρας” Babr.26.5: metaph., ἔντερ᾽ ἁλὶ καὶ σιλφίῳ ς. Axionic.8.4.
II. throw as from a sling, LXX 1 Ki.25.29:—Pass., “ἐκ κλιμάκων ἐσφενδονᾶτο χωρὶς ἀλλήλων μέλη” E.Ph.1183, cf. Hld.10.30.
2. move like a swing, swing to and fro, “ὅπλισμα . . διαφέρων ἐσφενδόνα” E.Supp.715.
