Pass., πλοχμοί θ᾽, οἳ χρυσῷ τε καὶ ἀργύρῳ ἐσφήκωντο were bound tightly, Il.17.52; ἐσφήκωντο κορύμβαις prob. in Antim. in PMilan.17.4; “κόμη ἐσφηκωμένηPoll.2.25; σφηκούμενος one binding up his hair, Ph.2.479; δειρὴν ἐσφήκωται he is narrow in the neck, Nic. Th.289; δὲ τέτρατος (sc. κύκλος ἐσφήκωται λοξὸς ἐν ἀμφοτέροις is fixed, Arat.526, cf. 441; θυρίδες εὖ καὶ καλῶς ἐσφηκωμέναι well-closed window-shutters, Aristid. Or.51(27).8 (-σφην- is prob. cj.); so καλύμματ᾽ ἐσφηκ. Anacr.21.3: metaph., coupled with πλεκτόν in Phld.Po.2.45.
