A.-αοςArat.857: τό: (σκέπω):—covering, shelter, Hom., only in Od.; κὰδ δ᾽ ἄρ᾽ Ὀδυσσῆ᾽ εἷσαν ἐπὶ σκέπας placed him in or under shelter, 6.212, cf. 210; ς. ἀνέμοιο shelter from the wind, 5.443, 12.336: abs. in poet. nom. and acc. pl. σκέπα^, Hes.Op.532; “σκέπας ὅρμωνLyc.736; of clothes, χλαίνης λιτὸν ς. AP9.43 (Parmen.); of the Maced. hat (καυσία), ib.6.335 (Antip. Thess.): pl., “ζωσάμενοι σκέπασι λινοῖςPorph.Abst.4.12 codd. (σκεπάσμασι is prob. l.): metaph. in sg., pretext, pretence, E.Antiop. iv B 2 Arnim.—In Prose commonly σκέπη (q.v.), or σκέπασμα.
