Ar.Nu.1376, Ra.662, Av.1016; “ς. τοῖς κονδύλοιςId.Lys.366, cf. ἀπο-, κατα-σποδέω:—Pass., νιφάδι . . σποδούμενος pelted by the storm, E.Andr.1129; ς. πρὸς πέτρας dashed against the rocks, Id.Hipp.1238: abs., στρατὸς κακῶς ς. handled roughly, in sorry plight, A.Ag.670.
II.= βινέω, Ar.Ec.942, 1016:—Pass., of the woman, ib. 908, Th.492; of boys, Id.Ec.113.
III. eat greedily, devour, Id.Pax 1306; “ὀβελίανPherecr.55; cf. “παίω111. (There is no indication of any connexion of this Verb with σποδός, except perh. in Cratin. l.c.)
