A.warp in the upright loom, “στήμονι δ᾽ ἐν παύρῳ πολλὴν κρόκα μηρύσασθαιHes.Op.538; “ἄττεσθαιHermipp.2; ἀκλώστους ς. Pl.Com.221; κρόκη καὶ ς. PLille 6.12 (iii B.C.); ξύλων . . στήμονα ἐχόντων τοὺς κάλους laths with the cords as their warp (so as to form mats), Apollod.Poliorc.169.7; cf. Pl.Plt.281a,282d, Cra.388b, Orph.Fr.33.
2. pl., in woodwork, dub. sens., of parts of a ceiling, Inscr.Délos 504 A 6,9,10 (iii B.C.).
