σύνολος , ον, Arist.Metaph.1037a32; also η, ον ib.26, Pl.Plt.299d:—
A.all together, ll. cc., POxy.1420.11 (ii A.D.); “συνόλη ἡ κώμη” PGen. 54.23 (iv A.D.); τὸ σῶμα τὸ ς. Arist.HA491a28, etc.; ἡ ς. οὐσία the complete substance, i.e. the εἶδος with the ὕλη, Id.Metaph.1037a32; τὸ ς. in this sense, ib.995b35, 1060b24; but τὸ ς. τὸ ἐκ τούτων (viz. σῶμα and εὐκινητότατον εἰς τὸν ἄνω τόπον） συντιθέμενον the whole composed of these (here genus and differentia), Id.Top.130a12.
II. τὸ ς. as Adv., on the whole, in general, Pl.Sph.220b, Lg.654b, D.61. 21, Philem.2, Sor.2.16, etc.; “ὡς τὸ ς. εἰπεῖν” Thphr.CP2.3.3; after a neg., at all, whatsoever, μὴ εἶναι χρῆσθαι τὸ ξ. IG12.6.43; οὐδὲν τὸ ς. PFlor.32b15 (iii A.D.), cf. PGrenf.2.76.18 (iv A.D.), etc.
