A.writing or noting down, Hdt.1.93; ἔχει συγγραφήν affords material for writing, Aristid. Or.47(23).3.
II. that which is written, writing, book, esp. in prose: history, narrative, Ἀττικὴ ξ. Th.1.97, cf. Arr.An.6.16.5, Paus.10.19.5, etc.
2. draft decree drawn up by the συγγραφῆς (cf. “συγγραφεύς11), IG12.76.47; also written contract, covenant, bond, Hp.Jusj., Th.5.35, Pl.Lg.953e, IG12(7).67 B76, al. (Amorgos, iv/iii B.C.), PCair.Zen.265.5, 666.6 (iii B.C.), etc.; ς. ναυτικαί bond to secure money lent on bottomry, D.35.27, cf. 32.1,5; so in sg., Id.34.6, 35.1; κατὰ τὰς ς. according to the bond or covenant, Lys.30.17; ἀνδριάντ᾽ ἐκδεδωκὼς κατὰ ς. having contracted for its execution, D.18.122; an architect's specifications, IG22.1665.2, 1668.2(both pl.), 1678.16 (sg.); “μὴ κατὰ συγγραφάςAeschin.1.160; “ἐπειδὰν δοκιμασθῇ [τὸ ἔργον] κατὰ τὴν ς. ταύτηνInscr.Délos 502 A 15 (iii B.C.); συγγραφὰς ἔχειν παρ᾽ ἑτέρων to have entered into contracts with others for the execution of paintings, And.4.17; ς. γαμική, μισθώσεως, etc., POxy.1034.6 (ii A.D.), PEnteux.54.3 (iii B.C.), etc.
III. a mark in the eye, ς. ὕφαιμος, as definition of αἱμάλωψ, Erot. s.v. οὔρει αἱμαλῶδες.
