IV. ς. τὰς ἀσπίδας lock their shields, X.Cyr.7.1.33: hence, abs., close up the ranks, Th.4.35; τὸ διάκενον καὶ οὐ ξυγκλῃσθέν the part that was not closed up, of a gap in the line, Id.5.72.
