συνα^ρίθμ-οξα Pi.N.10.12:—pf. Pass. -ήρμοσμαι, aor. -ηρμόσθην (v. infr.):
1. in physical sense, fit together, “κεραίαν δίχα πρίσαντες ξ. πάλιν ὥσπερ αὐλόν” Th.4.100; ξυνάρμοσον βλέφαρα . . Χερί close them, E.Ph.1451, cf. 2. of combination in act or thought, ὁμοῦ βίην τε καὶ δίκην ς. Sol.36.14; “καρπὸν δίκᾳ” Pi. N.10.12; “ς. εἰς ταὐτόν” Pl.Ti.35a; τρία ὄντα ς. Id.R.443d; “ἰδέας ἀλλήλων ἀφεστώσας” Isoc.15.11; compound a word, “ἀπὸ τοῦ θεῖν καὶ ἅλλεσθαι” Pl.Cra.414b:—Pass., “ἡ συνηρμος μένη λέξις” Phld.Po.Herc.994.26; πρὸς ἄλληλα ς. ib.35.
3. metaph., adapt or conform one thing to another, εὐχερείᾳ ς. βροτούς, i.e. make them indifferent to crime, A.Eu.495 (lyr.); “ς. τοῖς παροῦσι τὸν τρόπον” Ephipp.7; “ταῖς ποιότησι τὰς ποσότητας” Theon ap.Gal.6.96:—Pass., “πρὸς παρόντα συνηρμοσμένος” X.Ap.16; esp. of Music, “λύρα συνηρμος μένη πρὸς τὸν αὐλόν” Id.Smp.3.1.
II. intr., fit together, Pl.Tht.204a, Arist. GA747b1, PA654b19.
2. metaph., agree together, “ἀλλήλοις” Pl. Prt.333a, Phld.Po.Herc.994.27; “τοσαύτῃ φιλίᾳ” Lys.Fr.261 S.; “ς. εἰς φιλίαν” X.Mem.2.6.20: abs., Id.Cyr.7.5.60, etc.; “ς. εἰς ἅπαντα” Pl.Lg. 729a.
III. Med. much like Act., join together, unite, Id.Ti.53e, Plt.309c; “δεῖ γάμον -εσθαι πρὸς τὸν ἴδιον τόνον τᾶς ψυχᾶς” Callicrat. ap.Stob.4.28.18, cf. Plu.Sol.15; join in wedlock, “νέαν καὶ ὡραίαν” Ocell. 4.6.
