A.sharing one's hearth or house, S.OT249, E.Alc.1151; σύσσιτος καὶ ς. Pl.Ep.350c; ξυνέστιοι πόλεος his fellow-citizens, A.Th.773 (lyr.); ς. δαιτός, of a bottle, AP6.248 (Marc. Arg.): c. dat. pers., “ς. σοι καὶ ὁμοτράπεζοςPl.Euthphr.4b, cf. Lg.868e; ἀθανάτοισι ς. A.R.1.1319; ἀμβροσίῃσι ς. AP7.41; “ὄρνις ς. ἀνθρώποισιOpp.C.3.118: c. dat. pers. et gen. rei, χρὴ συνεστίους ἐμοὶ γοίνης γενέσθαι associates with me in the feast, E.El.784.
2. epith. of Zeus, guardian of the hearth, A.Ag. 703 (lyr.); ς. θεοί sharing the same hearth, i.e. temple, PGiss.99.26 (ii A.D.).
