II. Pass., to be brought up together, Pl.Lg.752c; “ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ” X.Cyr.6.4.14; συντέθραψαι προσπόλοισι βασιλέως with them, E.Hel. 1036; “τινὶ ἐκ παιδίου” Is.9.30: abs., τὰ συντρεφόμενα ζῷα, such as dogs, Arist.GA744b20.
2. of feelings, etc., to be bred up with, grow up with, become customary or familiar, [“τὸ ἡδὺ] ἐκ νηπίου ἡμῖν συντέθραπται” Id.EN1105a2; “ἐμπεφυκὼς καὶ συντεθραμμένος αὐτῷ ζῆλος” Plu. Alex.8, cf. Mar.14, AP12.42 (Diosc.); of diseases, Hp.Morb.Sacr. 8,11.
3. to be educated in, ταῖς γεωργικαῖς ἐπιμελείαις, τοῖς μαθήμασι πονηροῖς ἐθισμοῖς, D.S.1.74, 2.29,60.
4. grow by composition of different substances, to be organized, of bodies, Pl.Phd.96b, Ti.75b; “πυρὸς ἐν τόποις τισὶ -τρεφομένου” Epicur.Ep.2p.52U.
