συσκι^-άζω ,
A.shade quite over, Hes.Op.613; “σκηναὶ ς. τοὺς περιπάτους” Moschio ap.Ath.5.207e; ς. γένυν, i.e. to get a beard, E.Supp. 1219:—Pass., συσκιασθεῖσα κεφαλή, opp. ψιλή, Pl.Ti.75e.
2. metaph., throw into obscurity, “συγκρύψαι καὶ ς. τὰς ἁμαρτίας” D.11.13, cf. 2.20 (v.l.); “τὰ τῆς φύσεως ἀπόρρητα” Ph.1.635; of events, overshadow, “ὁ . . πόλεμος ς. τὸ περὶ τὴν γυναῖκα πάθος” Eun.Hist.p.254 D.:— Pass., φράσις συνεσκιασμένη obscure, Porph. in Ptol.181 Prooem.; εἰ μὴ ἀπάτῃ συσκιάζεσθε are not under the shadow of a delusion, Hp. Ep.11.
II. intr., ἄγκος . . πεύκαισι συσκιάζον a vale with pines thick-shading, E.Ba.1052; [“ἡ σελήνη] συνεσκίασε καὶ ἀπέκρυψε νεφῶν συνελθόντων” Plu.Arat.22.
