I. Ion. (and perh. in Porph.Chr.35.10), reply, answer (cf. “ὑποκρίνωB. I), Hdt.1.116, 9.9; “τῶν χρηστηρίωνId.1.90; but the Att. word ἀπόκρισις occurs in codd. at 1.49,5.50.
II. Att., playing a part on the stage, Arist.EN1118a8, Phld.Mus.p.91K.
2. an orator's delivery, Arist.Rh.1386a32, 1403b22, 1413b18, Chrysipp.Stoic.2.96, Phld.Rh.1.195 S., 201 S. (pl.); οἱ κατὰ τὴν . ῥήτορες orators who depend on their delivery, opp. to the authors of written speeches, Arist.Rh.1404a18.
3. metaph., playing a part, hypocrisy, outward show, Phoc.2 B, Plb.35.2.13, LXX 2 Ma.6.25, Ev.Matt. 23.28, al., Luc.Somn.17.
4. ὑπόκρισιν, as Adv., after the manner of,δελφῖνος .Pi.Oxy.408.69 ( = Fr.235).
