ὑστεραῖος , α, ον,
A.following, next, qualifying ἡμέρα, τῇ ὑστεραίῃ ἡμέρῃ on the following day, Hdt.8.22; but mostly without ἡμέρᾳ, Id.1.77, 126, al., Antipho 5.23, Th.7.52, IG12.63.36, 66.19; also ἐς τὴν ὑστεραίην-αν ἐλθεῖν, ἀναβαλέσθαι, Hdt.4.113, D.21.84; “ἐν τῇ .Pl. Prt.318a; τῆς . καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς ἄλλης ὑστέρης on the morrow and the day following, Aret.CA2.2: c. gen., “τῇ . τῶν μυστηρίωνAnd.1.111; “τῇ . τῆς μάχηςPl.Mx.240c: folld. by “, τῇ . ἂν ἔλθῃId.Cri. 44a; “τῇ . ἔθυενId.Smp.173a; and prob. should be inserted in the foll. places, “τῇ . ἐθάπτετοAntipho 6.37; τῇ . ἂν προθῶνται Lex ap. II. = ὕστερος, later, subsequent, . ἐπιστρατηΐη v.l. in Hdt.9.3, cf. D.H. Th.6 (but the vv.ll. ὑστέρην, ὑστέρας are to be preferred): elsewh. it may mean of or on the next day, μάχῃ τῇ μὲν πρώτῃ . . , τῇ δὲ . . . in the next day's fight, Th.7.11; “τῇ μὲν προτέρᾳ [ἐκκλησίᾳ] . . , ἐν δὲ τῇ .Id.1.44, cf.
