A.near the ground, on the ground, low, “εὐναί” Od. 11.194; “σκόπελος -ώτερος” 12.101; “τεῖχος -ώτατον” Il.13.683, cf. Plu. Arat.18; “οἰκοδομεῖν -ώτερα τὰ πρὸς ἄρκτον” X.Mem.3.8.9; “χ. Αἴγυπτος” Theoc.17.79; “λόφοι -ώτεροι” Plb.10.10.7; “χ. δένδρα” Plu.2.320c; τὰ χ. ib.103e; “τὴν πόλιν ἐν τῷ χ. κεῖσθαι” D.Chr.6.2; also of the sea, “κῦμα χ.” Hld.5.1, cf. Ach.Tat.3.2.
II. of Ithaca, αὐτὴ δὲ χθαμαλὴ πανυπερτάτη εἰν ἁλὶ κεῖται πρὸς ζόφον dub. sens. in Od.9.25, cf. 10.196, Str.10.2.12.
III. metaph. of persons of humble station, “χ. καὶ μικροπρεπεῖς” Them.Or.9.126a, 34p.469Dind. (Comp.); also “δικαιοσύνη” Id.Or.8.118d (Comp.).
