ἄλλως adverb of ἄλλος,

I.in another way or manner, otherwise, Hom., etc.: in attic, ἄλλως πως in some other way; ἄλλως οὐδαμῶς in no other wise; καὶ ἄλλως and besides; ἀρίστου καὶ ἄλλως φρονιμωτάτου Plat.
2.ἄλλως τε καί . . , both otherwise and so, . . , i. e. especially, attic, etc.
II.otherwise, differently, ἄλλως εἶπαι to say otherwise, i. e. to deny, Hdt.
2.in far other manner, i. e. better, Hom., etc.
3.otherwise than should be, i. e. without aim or purpose, without reason, Od., Hdt., etc.:—also fruitlessly, in vain, Il.
