ἀναγιγνώσκω

I.epic usage, esp. in aor2 ἀν-έγνων, to know well, know certainly, Hom., Hdt.
2.to know again, recognise: to acknowledge, own, Lat. agnoscere, Hom., Hdt.
II.attic usage, fut. ἀναγνώσομαι: aor2 ἀνέγνων: perf. ἀνέγνωκα:— Pass., fut. -γνωσθήσομαι: aor1 ἀνεγνώσθην: perf. ἀνέγνωσμαι, etc.:—of written characters, to know them again, and so to read, Ar., etc.; ἀναγνώσεται (sc. γραμματεύς), ἀνάγνωθι, Dem.:— οἱ ἀναγιγνώσκοντες students, Plut.
III.ionic usage, aor1 ἀνέγνωσα, to persuade or induce one to do a thing, c. acc. et inf., Hdt.: the inf. is sometimes omitted, ὡς ἀνέγνωσε when he had persuaded him, id=Hdt.;—the pres. is once so used, ἀναγιγνώσκεις στρατεύεσθαι βασιλέα id=Hdt.:—so in aor1 pass. ἀνεγνώσθην, to be persuaded to do a thing, c. inf., id=Hdt.
