ἀριστεύω from ἀριστεύς

1.to be best or bravest, Hom.:— to gain the prize for valour, gain the highest distinction, Hdt.
2.c. gen., ἀριστεύεσκε Τρώων he was the best of the Trojans, Il.; βουλῆι ἀριστεύεσκεν ἁπάντων id=Il.; c. inf., ἀριστεύεσκε μάχεσθαι was best at fighting, id=Il.; ἀρ. τι to be best in a thing, Theocr.
