Lat. ver, spring, ἔαρος νέον ἱσταμένοιο in time of early spring, Od.; ἅμα τῷ ἔαρι at the beginning of spring, Hdt.; ἐξ ἦρος εἰς Ἀρκτοῦρον Soph.:—metaph. of the prime or flower of anything, Hdt., etc.; ἔαρ ὁρᾶν to look fresh and bright, Theocr.; γενύων ἔαρ, i. e. the first down on a youth's face, Anth.
