ἐπιβαίνω 1 2 3 4 5 6 Hom. always uses the ionic aor1 form ἐπεβήσετο 7

A.in fut. and aor. mid., perf. act., and athematic aor., intr., to go upon:
I.c. gen. to set foot on, tread or walk upon, Hom., attic:—also, ἐπ. ἐπί τινος Hdt.
2.to get upon, mount on, νεῶν ἵππων Hom., Hdt.;—also, ἐπ. ἐπὶ νηός id=Hdt.
3.of Time, to arrive at, Plat.
4.metaph., ἐπ᾽ ἀναιδείης ἐπ. to indulge in impudence, Od.; εὐσεβίας ἐπ. to observe piety, Soph.
II.c. dat. to mount upon, get upon, ναυσί Thuc.:—also, ἐπ. ἐπὶ πύργῳ Hdt.
2.c. dat. pers. to set upon, attack, assault, τινί Xen.
III.c. acc. loci, to light upon, Hom.: simply, to go on to a place, to enter it, Hdt.
2.c. acc. to attack, like ἐπέρχομαι, Soph. :dnum [3.] to mount, νῶθ᾽ ἵππων Hes.; ἵππον Hdt.
IV.absol. to get a footing, Od.
2.to step onwards, advance, Hes., Soph.
3.to mount on a chariot or on horseback, be mounted, Il., Hdt.: to go or be on board ship, Il., Soph., etc.
B.Causal in aor1 act. (ἐπιβιβάζω serves as pres.), to make one mount, set him upon, ἵππων ἐπέβησε Il.; πυρῆς ἐπέβησε id=Il.
2.metaph., εὐκλεΐης ἐπίβησον bring to great glory, id=Il.; σαοφροσύνης ἐπέβησαν they bring him to sobriety, Od.
