I.to place, put, or lay down, Hom.
2.to propose as a prize, id=Hom.; κ. ἄεθλον to propose a contest, Od.; κ. τι ἐς μέσον to put it down in the midst, i. e. for common use, Eur.; but, ἐς μέσον Πέρσῃσι κ. τὰ πρήγματα to communicate power to them, give them a common share of it, Hdt.
