1.the thread which is passed between the threads of the warp (στήμων, tela), the woof or weft, Lat. subtemen, Hes., Hdt., etc.
2.κροκύς, the flock or nap of woollen cloth, cloth with curly nap, Ar.: in pl., μαλακαῖς κρόκαις with cloths of soft wool, Pind.; κρόκαισι with flocks of wool, Soph.
