I.in doric and epic μάν, a Particle used to strengthen asseverations, Lat. vero, verily, truly, Hom., etc.
II.after other Particles,
1.ἦ μήν, like ἦ μέν (μήν being only a stronger form), now verily, full surely, ἦ μὴν καὶ πόνος ἐστίν Il.;—so in attic, to introduce an oath, c. inf., ὄμνυσι δ᾽ ἦ μὴν λαπάξειν Aesch., etc.
2.καὶ μήν, to introduce something new or special, καὶ μὴν Τάνταλον εἰσεῖδον Od.: in dramatic Poets to mark the entrance of a person on the stage, and see . . , here comes . . ; so of new facts or arguments, Trag., Dem.
