2.with the opt. in reference to the past, whenever, to express an event that has often occurred, ὁπότε Κρήτηθεν ἵκοιτο Il., etc.:—also in oratio obliqua, Soph., etc.
II.in indirect phrases, ἴδμεν, ὁππότε Τηλέμαχος νεῖται when he is to return, Od.; with opt., δέγμενος ὁππότε ναυσὶν ἐφορμηθεῖεν Il.
B.in causal sense, for that, because, since, like Lat. quando for quoniam, Theogn., Hdt., etc.: so ὁπότε γε, Lat. quandoquidem, Soph., Xen.
