ὄπις 1 ΟΠ, Root of ὄψ

I.of the gods,
1.in bad sense, ὄπις θεῶν the vengeance or visitation of the gods for transgressing divine laws, Hom., Hes.; without θεῶν, divine vengeance, Od.
2.in good sense, the care or favour of the gods, Pind.
II.of men, the regard which men pay to the gods, religious awe, veneration, reverence, οὐδὲ θεῶν ὄπιν ἔχοντας paying no regard to the gods, Hdt.; ὄπι ξένων in his reverence towards strangers, Pind.
