1.(sc. μερίς), at Athens the duty of one-fiftieth, or two per cent., on all exports and imports, Oratt.; εὕρηκε καινὴν ἱππικῆς τινὰ πεντηκοστήν he invented a new two per cent. duty, in lieu of his cavalry service, i. e. paid this instead of it, Dem.
2.(sc. ἡμέρα), the fiftieth day (after the Passover), Pentecost, NTest.
