πλήσσω πέπηγα is used as pass. in late writers the Root is ΠΛΑΓ, or ΠΛΗΓ

2.with acc. of the thing set in motion, κονίσαλον ἐς οὐρανὸν ἐπέπληγον πόδες ἵππων struck the dust up to heaven, Il.
