1.that which befals one, one's lot, destiny: commonly of evil destiny, death, of the killer, πότμον ἐφεῖναι, or of the killed, πότμον ἐπισπεῖν, Hom.;—also in Pind. and Trag.
2.without a sense of evil, π. συγγενής one's natural gifts, Pind.; εὐτυχεῖ πότμῳ Aesch.; π. ξυνήθης πατρός my father's customary fortune, Soph.
Penult. often short in Trag.
