σιωπάω σιωπή

I.to be silent or still, keep silence, Hdt., attic; φησὶν σιωπῶν, i. e. his silence gives consent, Eur.
II.trans. to hold silent, keep secret, not to speak of, Xen., etc.:—Pass. to be kept silent or secret, σιγῶσ᾽ ὧν σιωπᾶσθαι χρεών keeping secret things which ought to be kept secret, Eur.
