τέχνη 1 τίκτω, skill, craft in work, cunning of hand, esp. of metal-working, Od.; of a shipwright, Il.; of a soothsayer, Aesch., Soph., craft, cunning, in bad sense, δολίη τ. Od.; in pl. arts, wiles, cunning devices, id=Od., etc.
3.the way, manner or means whereby a thing is gained, without any sense of art or craft, μηδεμιῇ τέχνῃ in no wise, Hdt.; πάσῃ τέχνῃ by all means, Ar.; παντοίῃ τ. Soph. art, craft, trade, ἐπίστασθαι τὴν τ. to know his craft, Hdt.; ἐν τῇ τέχνῃ εἶναι to practise it, Soph.; ἐπὶ τέχνῃ μανθάνειν τι to learn a thing professionally, Plat.; τέχνην ποιεῖσθαί τι to make a trade of it, Dem. art, i. e. a system or method of making or doing, Plat., Arist.; φύσει τέχνῃ Plat.; μετὰ τέχνης, ἄνευ τέχνης id=Plat.
