Chalcis , ĭdis or ĭdŏs, f., = Χαλκίς.

Chief town of the island Eubœa, opposite to Aulis, connected by a bridge with the main land, now Egribo or Negroponte; also called Chalcis Euboica, or Chalcis Eubœœ, Col. 1, 4, 9; Luc. 5, 227; Mel. 2, 7, 9; Plin. 4, 12, 21, § 64; 11, 37, 74, § 191; Nep.
