I.name of a Roman gens.; in partic., A. Hirtius, consul A. U. C. 711, and author of the eighth book of Cœsar's Commentaries on the Gallic war: he fell before Mutina, Cic. Att. 7, 4, 2; Q. Cic. ap. Cic. Fam. 16, 27, 1.—Hirtīnus , a, um, of Hirtius: proelium, the battle in which Hirtius met his death, Asin. Pollio ap. Cic. Fam. 10, 33, 4.
