I.one who practises set speaking, a rhetorician, declaimer (diff. from orator, a practical speaker, Quint. 10, 2, 21): “non enim declamatorem aliquem de ludo aut rabulam de foro, sed doctissimum et perfectissimum quaerimus,Cic. Or. 15, 47; cf. id. Planc. 34, 83; Quint. 3, 8, 44; 51; 5, 13, 42; Juv. 16, 23 et saep.
