I.to deprive or bereave of parents, children, or other dear persons; to make fatherless, motherless, childless, etc. (class.; syn.: privo, viduo).
II. Transf., in gen., to deprive, bereave, strip of any (esp. a precious) thing: pater me lumine orbavit, Enn. ap. Charis. p. 250 P. (Trag. v. 351 Vahl.): “Italiam juventute,Cic.
