II. As subst.: purpŭrātus , i, m., a high officer at a king's court (so called because clothed in purple), Cic. Tusc. 1, 43, 102; Liv. 30, 42; 37, 23; Flor. 1, 10; Curt. 3, 2, 10; 3, 6, 4.—Hence, sarcastically of Gabinius, Cic. Cat. 4, 6, 12.
