I.that which falls off in pruning or trimming, clippings, waste; shells, peels, etc.: “putamina non solum arborum sunt, verum omnium rerum purgamenta. Nam quicquid ex quācumque re proicitur, putamen appellatur. Plautus in Captivis (3, 4, 122): nucleum amisi, reliquit pigneri putamina,shells, peels, husk, Non. 157, 28 sq.; so, of the shells of nuts, Cic. Tusc. 5, 20, 58; Varr. R.
