The title of Xenophon's narrative of the 10,000 Greek troops in the expedition under Cyrus the Younger against his brother Artaxerxes. It is in seven books, of which the first alone deals with the ἀνάβασις, or march up from the coast, the rest relating to the κατάβασις, or retreat and subsequent adventures of the Ten Thousand.


The Anabasis of Alexander, by Arrianus (q.v.), contains an account of the campaigns of Alexander the Great, written in the second century A.D. Like the Anabasis of Xenophon, it is in seven books.
