Chirisŏphus

Χειρίσοφος). A Lacedaemonian; was sent by the Spartans to aid Cyrus in his expedition against his brother Artaxerxes, B.C. 401. After the battle of Cunaxa, and the subsequent arrest of the Greek generals, Chirisophus was appointed one of the new generals, and, in conjunction with Xenophon (q.v.), had the chief conduct of the retreat.
