or Cato , Vettius. An Italian general in the Marsic War (B.C. 90) who defeated the Roman consuls in two successive battles. Being taken prisoner, he was stabbed to death by his own slave, to escape the disgrace of being punished by his captors (B. C. i. 40-43).
